The Kaohsiung Municipal United Hospital (KMUH) is the first successful model in the nation to achieve efficient merging of two public hospital systems. Under the active planning, promotion and leadership of Director-general Yun-Hsin Chen of Department of Health, Kaohsiung City Government, the former Kaohsiung Municipal Tatung Hospital and the Kaohsiung Municipal Women & Children General Hospital have now combined to become the KMUH. The scheme was planned over three years before its final approval was granted by the Kaohsiung Municipal Council in July, 2002.
The KMUH started formal operation on the 1st of January 2003, and received the opening remarks and blessing from Deputy Mayor Yun-Chien Lin. The merged KMUH established itself across the two hospitals’ areas of interest: the Meishuguan District (the former Kaohsiung Municipal Women & Children General Hospital), and the Tatung District (the former Kaohsiung Municipal Tatung Hospital). The hospital offers health care in 39 medical disciplines, providing care to a capacity of 500 general hospital beds and 209 special hospital beds. As a regional teaching hospital, KMUH provides the highest quality of care to the general public and local communities, receiving wide popularity, trust and a superb reputation. As a municipal hospital, we are committed to upholding the responsibility of serving society, and public health advocacy.
Our present aim is to improve the community volunteering service and community health engagement, thereby extending the goal of hospital development into the arena of public service. Our team of health care specialists strives to make KMUH "The Regional Public Hospital That Provides Best Service Quality." We consider ourselves as the "friendly neighbor" in which is our service motto; it is our duty to provide high quality service to regional communities. It is hoped that together both the KMUH and the community will establish a collaborative health-care provider-patient relationship that attains to a healthy life.
